Bovril Potato Bake

Makes: 1 large bake (serves 6 – 8)
Preparation Time: 20 minutes   Baking Time: 1½ hours

Ingredients

1.25 kg Large potatoes, peeled
2 Cloves garlic, chopped
30 g Margarine or butter (2 Tbsp)
250 g Chedder cheese, grated
10 ml Thyme (2 tsp)
15 ml Bovril (1 Tbsp)
250 ml Cream (1 cup)

Method

  1. Mix together the cream, garlic, and margarine until well combined. Set aside.
  2. Slice the potatoes thinly and place in water to prevent discolouration.
  3. In the microwave, heat the Bovril in a small bowl for 15 seconds until runny.
  4. Using an ovenproof dish, layer the potatoes at the bottom. Pour a thin layer of cream over the potatoes, drizzle some Bovril over the cream, and sprinkle some cheese.
  5. Repeat the layers until all the potatoes, cream, Bovril, and cheese are used.
  6. Sprinkle thyme over the top layer.
  7. Cover the dish with a lid and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 1½ hours.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly to set before serving.
